Alien recommendation

Alien is a horror and science fiction movie directed by Riddle Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver. This film has been hailed by many filmmakers by the fact that revolutionized the world of cinema using a few decorated settings and very well implemented ideas.

The story focuses on the crew of the Nostromo, the ship ends its space round and is about to land on earth with all its crew members in a state of cryonics, when without knowing the central computer captures a signal of apparent relief and changes its course the origin of it. Then, the crew of the Nostromo wake up angry and have no other choice but to get off the planet from which comes the call and find out what's going on. Getting off, an alien with a hand shape sticks on the face of one of the crew members and then he enters in a state of coma. After researching the hand, they discover that the shaped hand alien was no danger itself, but what he introduced his victim in the stomach. Therefore, the larvae grow into the "eighth passenger" of the Nostromo.

One of the elements that make this film a masterpiece is its atmosphere, characterized by long dimly lit corridors with gases, emergency lights, metallic ceilings and  floors and windows with nothing but the empty image of the dark space. In addition, the atmosphere was frightening because we knew that a very powerful monster was loose and only six people had to flee from him or stop it.

Regarding the immersion, it was easy to identify with the characters because they were normal people who were caught in a situation of life or death, unlike other genre films that are rely on highly advanced technology and characters that are difficult to empathize with. However, there are many positive points since this film a classic  that everyone should watch.

Colors by Between the buried and me

"Colors" is the fifth studio album by the progressive metal and death metal band Between the Buried and Me, released on September 18th of 2007 through the label Victory Records. The American band brought out many different influences within the structure of the songs featured on the album, such as jazz, acoustic pop, arena rock, and bluegrass influences.

"Colors" is an album in which the concept of division isn’t really clear. The cuts between songs only serve to separate the tracks; the album is intended more as a work with a beginning, an end and its various movements, in which we travel to a journey throughout the progressive sound.

The album starts with a soft piano that leads into a small introduction entitled "Foam Born (a): the Backtrack" and goes up the intensity until it ends in a metalcore outburst and where we can already guess some progressive dyes then they have great prominence on the album. .. At this point we dive fully into "(b) the Decade of Statues". This topic is completely gender, metalcore without respite but with ultimately progressive guitars. It’s in "Informal Gluttony" where the most unexpected elements begin to be heard. To begin with, the intro, which sounds mystical, leads his way to the heavy forcefulness that characterizes the group. And yet, two minutes song peak surprise us with a melodic chorus that we can perfectly relate to any group of indie rock.

"Sun of Nothing" and "Ants of the Sky" are the most experimental duo. In the last 23 minutes, between the two songs we can witness a large repertoire with unparalleled comings and goings: fast metal riffs, acoustic and vocal melodies, melancholy passages ... And long scales that have been directly influenced by groups with epic progressive rock of the 70s. "Prequel to the Sequel" follows in the line metalcore and progressive mixes, "Viridian" is a small stop along the way to"White Walls", which is the climax, with a devastating and intensive start that doesn't stop until the end. In addition it concludes the album with a track of four minutes, one of those that make history.

BioShock recommendation

BioShock is a first-person shooter developed by Irrational Games , published on August 21th of 2007 in North America for the Windows operating system and the Xbox 360 console, three days later in some European countries and Australia, and August 31th in Spain.

Regarding to BioShock’s plot, imagine that your plane crashes in the middle of the Pacific, you don’t know where you are, hardly you swim and then you arrive to a lost lighthouse in the middle of nowhere. The gates of Rapture, the utopian underwater city, they open in order to let us know the horror what lurks behind its walls. So, the nightmare begins.

BioShock, based its charm on the exploration and immersion of the fascinating history of Rapture and the truthfulness and cruelty of a wild and violent world that doesn’t discriminate among its victims which are men, women and even girls.

On the other hand, the sound effects are another factor that makes the experience of visiting Rapture great. All weapons sound powerful, and shootings are a delight to the ears for its sharpness. But the real star of the sonorous shots is Rapture and its habitants.

The constant crackle of water pressure on the giant vaults of Rapture, the sounds of psychopaths wandering and singing in the streets, the awkward but thunderous walk of the Big Daddies and endearing but scary barefoot walking of the Little Sisters on the cold surfaces are so authentic, terrifying and unpayable. The atmosphere of a video game consists of both what we see and what we hear, and Bioshock is an excellent example.

In conclusion, in this recommendation I've basically talked about the audiovisual and story issues of the game. However, BioShock has an excellent gameplay, but It may feel a bit rough compared with FPS such as Call of Duty or Halo. To sump up, I highly recommend BioShock, It's an unique and satisfying experience.

Persona 4 recommendation

Persona 4 is a japanese videogame published by Atlus for the PlayStation 2 and it was released in 2008. Despite being a little bit old and not as famous as other American role playing games, I highly recommend playing this game. Not only does it have a great story, but it also has amazing characters, a great soundtrack and art work. The game takes place in Inaba, a fictional rural japanese town, and it begins with the murder of a famous journalist, but there is no clue to be found of who the culprit might be. Therefore, the main focus of the game revolves around Personas, avatars projected from one's inner self that resemble mythological figures and represent the facets worn by individuals to face life's hardships. Each Persona possesses its own skills, as well as strengths and weaknesses to certain attributes. So, the protagonists must fight to pass some dungeons and progresse with their investigation.

Silent hill 2 recommendation

Silent hill 2 is a survival horror videogame published by Konami for the PlayStation 2, developed by Team Silent and its release date was the 24th of September of 2001.

First of all, Silent Hill 2 marked a turning point in its genre and for the next Silent Hill games, unlike other games that wanted to scare us to death, on the contrary Silent Hill 2 bet for a new kind of psychological horror in video games. It's clearly one of the best examples of horror modern in any media. If that weren't enough, Silent Hill's sequel is an evident example of how a game with good storytelling (full of symbolism) and true survival horror experience should be. As a consequence, this masterpiece moved many players more than a decade ago. It's hard to believe that Silent Hill 2 has more than a decade, especially since it looks very fresh and contemporary. Furthermure, without a powerful graphics engine, Silent Hill 2 managed to be visually pleasing, all this due to its art direction and its excellent atmosphere.

Moreover, the idea of playing as an anti-hero like James, his dark secrets and hidden past was something completely new at the time and it’s even nowadays. Silent Hill 2 was the first game in the series to show the existence of own torments of each character, double personalities and psychological traumas materialized. Few games have captured horror in such an intimate way; it treated sexual themes without showing meaningless obscenities. Silent Hill 2 didn't need to scare with jump scares or excessive gore or sex to be called "adult". The game managed to reach the depths of the player, conveying feelings of loneliness, nostalgia, melancholy and intrigue. It's a horror game, but it attacked our most vulnerable side: our hearts with a devastating history; and our psyche, posing a constant intrigue that will keep us hooked on the game until we finish it.

On the other hand Silent Hill 2 might have some negative points such as the short duration of the game or the rough gameplay. However, from my point of view this masterpiece has the appropriate length and the gameplay is the right for a desperate atmosphere.

In conclusion, Silent Hill 2 is a must play because of his excellent storytelling, immersive atmosphere, the depressive soundtrack which fits perfectly in every moment and his importance regarding the evolution of the genre.

Gantz recommendation

Gantz is a seinen manga created by Hiroya Oku in 2000. This japanese comic has a total of 37 volumes and the last one was published in 2013. In addition, due to his popularity it has been adapted into many different media such as cinema, videogame and anime.

Hiroya's most famous work combines action, science fiction and personal relationships in contemporary japan. Gantz's main plot focuses on Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, two students that die in their attempt of saving a drunk man who fell in the subway tracks. After that, they're instantly summoned in an apartment with unknown people where there's a black sphere named Gantz. Then, the sphere tells them that they're dead and they have to obey what the individual inside the sphere comands (killing aliens), in order to save their lives, but only if they survive.

From my point of view, Gantz is a great manga, very enjoyable and not boring at all. What I liked most were the characters, most of them are flat characters except for Kei Kurono, although for me, the most interesting one was Joichiro Nishi is a veteran of the Gantz world and he's also smart, selfish and has a social Darwinist approach to life. But, why -in my opinion- has he been an interesting character? Mainly because of his hate towards society, his craving for the arrival of the apocalypse and his background story. Another brilliant aspect of the manga were some of the moral decisions they have choose because it left me thinking. Another thing worth noting was the drawing made by computers which gave realism to the backgrounds and immersion into the characters.

Nevertheless, some things may not like to everyone, for instance: the extreme use of violence which is excessive sometimes and the unnecessary and yet abundant nudity in the whole series. But in my case, I appreciated the ensemble.

In conclusion, I highly recommend Oku's comic as well as I don't recommend it for certain people that aren't pleased with extreme violence and nudity, but for those that don't mind, they'll probably find in Gantz a very entertaining reading.

Donnie Darko recommendation

Donnie Darko is an American film shot in 2001. It's a psychological thriller set in the late 1988. It tells the story of Donnie, a teenager who has visions on a sinister giant rabbit named Frank who predicts the doomsday .

From my point of view this film is truly unique and stands out from all over blockbuster titles, with a very original premise to time-travel that feels so real and different compared to other sc-fi flicks. I absolutely enjoyed every moment of Donnie Darko every performance was spot on, absolutely stunning movie.

Finally, I recommend this movie although It isn't for everyone, but if you surely want to enjoy a great and different film, then, you're wasting your time reading my opinion.

Persona 3 recommendation

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3, released in Japan as simply Persona 3 is the fourth game of the series Persona. It was developed and distributed by Atlus for the PlayStation 2 console.

In Persona 3, we assume the role of a high school student, who was orphaned as a young boy, and has recently transferred to Gekkoukan High School on Port Island. Only days after he arrives at the school dorm, he is attacked by a Shadow. The assault awakens his Persona, Orpheus, his only chance at defeating this creature of the night. He soon discovers that he shares this special ability with other students at his new school. From them he learns of the Dark Hour, a hidden time that exists between one day and the next, swarming with Shadows that have been slowing claiming victims known as The Lost - poor souls who have inexplicably been turned into walking zombies. Under the supervision of school chairman Shuji Ikutsuki, he joins his new friends in confronting this evil threat... With your school as the primary battlefield, you are forced to juggle between two lives: student by day, defender against evil by night. And your greatest challenges await you on the eve of each full moon.

With a successful approach, an exceptional finish and deep and really cared development, Persona 3's great plot offers a full RPG, very long and, and in some sense a visual novel. It represents the routine of a student like any other, but also the excitement to end a threat that haunts the hometown where he lives. Many issues are treated in this game, such as: death, suicide, finding a meaning in our lifes...etc, the dark tone is matched perfectly with is wide range OST (Jazz, electronical music, pop, rock...). An experience, with special emphasis on our relationship with others, that offers one of the best video games to be made redundant the PlayStation 2.

Paranoid recommedation

Paranoid is the second studio album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath. Originally his name was going to be War Pigs, but due to the pressure from the record company the name was changed into Paranoid. It was recorded and published in 1970, constituting the first success of the band, and It's considered a cult album. The album became number one in the UK, and today remains the best-selling LP by Black Sabbath.

Paranoid would mark the high point of Black Sabbath's trajectory, an LP contained in the list of essential albums drafted by Rolling Stone Magazine. It is indeed, a disc of enormous quality, both overall and in their songs individually. From the point of view of the lyrics, it's one of the albums that focuses more negatively the human condition. Monolithic and primally powerful, Paranoid defined the sound and style of heavy metal more than any other record in rock history.

For me, the best of the album is "War Pigs", which It's along with "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" one of the greatest exponents of the LP and of the whole discography of Black Sabbath. The issue launches harsh criticism of the Vietnam War, the military and politicians, describing them as it says in the title of the song "War Pigs."

Rust in peace recommendation

Rust in Peace the fourth studio album by the American thrash metal band Megadeth, published by the record company Capitol Records on September 24, 1990. Produced by Mike Clink and Dave Mustaine, Rust in Peace marked the debut of the guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza, which respectively replaced Jeff Young and Chuck Behler in 1989.

In this album Dave Mustaine accentuates the progressive tendencies of his compositions, producing rhythmically complex, technically challenging thrash suites that he and Friedman burn through with impeccable execution and astonishing skill. Thanks to Mustaine's focus on the music rather than the lyrics, Rust in Peace arguably holds up better than any other Megadeth release. Megadeth's fourth studio album sometimes is compared with "...And Justice For All" by Metallica, due to his technical complexity . While the whole album is consistently impressive, the obvious highlight are the epic, "Hangar 18" with 12 solos, "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" a song with really great lyrics and the second part is as good as the first, finally "Tornado Of Souls" which has one of the best guitar solos ever in the metal genre from my point of view.

In retrospective reviews, Rust in Peace has been cited for its great impact on heavy metal. The Decibel magazine called it "the work that defined the genre," while Kerrang! wrote that the album "set a new standard for heavy metal of the 1990s." Meanwhile, IGN ranked it as the fourth most influential heavy metal album, while a 2010 survey by MusicRadar positioned Megadeth's album as the sixth best metal album. In a list compiled by Chad Bowar, the writer named it the best album of the decade of the genre and called it "a masterpiece of thrash."

Mr. Robot recommendation

Mr. Robot is an American television series created by Sam Esmail. It premiered on June 24th, 2015 by USA Network. The same day the series was renewed for a second season. For critics It's considered a modern classic TV show in which issues as anti-consumerism, anarchism and loss of identity are treated.

The series follows a young computer programmer who suffers from social anxiety disorder and works as a security engineer and he uses his skills to protect the people he cares. Elliot is recruited by a mysterious leader of a group of hackers named Fsociety which wants to destroy powerful multinational  who are  running the world.

What I loved from this astonishing series were the influence by many of my favourites films such as Taxi Driver (the main character's narration) , A Clockwork Orange, The Matrix and above all Fight Club (dissociative identity disorder). A pretty cool thing is when they break the fourth wall, so Elliot (protagonist) adresses to the audience, this decision adheres us to the characters. But what I liked most was the dark tone mixed with hackers and anarchism, all that matching with a great and suitable OST.

Below there's Mr. Robot's first scene.

Undertale recommendation

Undertale is a role-playing video game developed and published by indie developer toby fox. Creator Toby Fox provided the game's script, design and soundtrack, with additional artwork by Temmie Chang. The game was released for PC on September 15 of 2015.

In this RPG adventure where nobody has to get hurt (if you want to). A moving plot and emphasis on humour are set in a world full of monsters, where the main character is apparently the only human.

Undertale can be considered a rarity, but one of those that occur when the way of making games is so uniform and so constrained that only by taking the opposite approach is the way of achieving a surprise. It is perfectly raised and hides something that connects directly or indirectly to anyone who has spent too much time with a joystick in his hands.

I recommend Toby Fox's videogame, because of its originality, the way Undertale escapes from repetition, breaking the fourth wall, the soundtrack...etc. Although this excellent role-playing game isn't for anyone.

Below there's an extended version of the theme "Battle against a true hero".

Your say: Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols

Never Mind the Bollocks was the first and only studio album by the punk band Sex Pistols. The album was released in the UK on October 28, 1977 by Virgin Records label immediately causing controversy over the inclusion of the word "Bollocks" in the title. This pretentious album is considered the wildest LP that rock 'n' roll had since then, the album has 12 very direct songs, with a very minimalistic sound,  which is crowned with a very acidic lyrics and an overwhelming invasion of sharp guitars.

Sex Pistols The disc opens with "Holidays in the Sun," a powerful theme that begins with a military march as a sonic warning about that the invasion is a reality, the second cut, "Bodies" is critic to abortion, "No Feelings" and "Liar" are two very visceral and crushing sound issues that devastate consciences with his lyrics, very angry and honest. "Good Save the Queen" is a hymn of all time, a very ambitious track, which leads to the continuity of "Problems" and thereupon to the youth of "Seventeen" . Then we find "Anarchy in the UK", "Submission" and "Pretty Vacant", three very enveloping songs and above all very emaciated, devastating reality by the Western world and the hopelessness of his youth. In the end we come to "New York" and "EMI", two important controversial songs.

Finally, I recommend this album to everyone even if you don't like punk it's a classical LP, a must-hear and essential to understand the evolution of the genre thorughtout the decades. Never Mind the Bollocks marked a turning point in music of the 20th century.

Your say: Beauty and subjectivity

First of all, we got to define beauty as an abstract notion linked to many aspects of human existence. This is mainly studied by the philosophical discipline of aesthetics, but is also addressed by other disciplines such as history, sociology and social psychology. As a consequence beauty is commonly defined as the characteristic of a thing through a sensory experience, which seeks a feeling of pleasure or a feeling of satisfaction. Therefore, In this sense, the beauty comes from events such as the shape, the visual appearance, movement and sound, although it is associated, to a lesser extent, the tastes and smells.

As we all know, beauty is an abstract concept that arises from the appreciation of a given viewer, so what some individual considers "beautiful" may not be "beautiful" for another spectator, it is the view of the observer (influenced by the socio-cultural skills , ideological, environmental, etc.) from which beauty is determined. And it is subjective as opposed to objective, because it can't be measured or calculated.

In conclusion, that's why I think that beauty can be found in every corner of the world if one only knows how to find it, because it's based on a subjective opinion which differs from that of any other individual.

Your say: One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

To begin with, One flew over the cuckoo's nest is a classical drama film in which the foremost thing is onscreen battle between Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher which represents the culture wars of the 1970s and testament to the director's vision that the film retains its power more than three decades later.

Randle McMurphy (Jack Nicholson), a man convicted of assault, and a free spirit who lives crosscurrent, is detained in a mental hospital. The center inflexible discipline emphasizes its contagious tendency to disorder, which eventually triggering a war between patients and clinic staff with cold and severe Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) to the head. The fate of every patient is at stake.

I loved how the Czech director, Milos Forman and Jack Nicholson addressed to the insanity as a concept, the dignity of the individual and the American Psychiatric complaint system. The movie's directing is great, the acting is outstanding, the script is captivating, and as a proof of that One flew over the cuckoo's nest is one of the few movies that gained the five main Oscars awards.

Finally, I recommend this movie to everyone, it's a must-watch classic which aged magnificently.

Your say: Piracy (Videogames)

Piracy is to get something illegally either downloading or buying it in a store at a lower price, in this case a video game.

Fist of all, what I feel about it? I think that at a time is good but also bad .We all had that game we wanted to buy but did not have enough money and we opted to it download illegally .¿How this affects me? if we see it from our point of view this does not affect us at all but it has one problem and it's that we cannot play online (However I've only done it with a few games) .¿Did it affect someone? Unfortunately Yes. But Who? businesses .Why businesses? because as the money does not reach the companies they cannot carry on making games.

Obviously the blame is not only on pirates it's also the fault of the businesses, it may seem odd or illogical but for me the main problem are the high prices of the games, because a large majority can't afford to pay a set of  70 € although there are platforms like Steam that allows you to buy these games at a lower price digitally .Is the same way to buy via a digital shop ? The only problem is that you don't have the box but the content is exactly the same.

In conclusion, piracy is almost impossible to stop and even with the high prices of video games while the problem includes not only this industry but also to the music and film too. I think the price should be lower as it would benefit both them and us.

Your say: Racism

Racism is infused with fear, so that fear makes them to be afraid or to hate a different society to theirs.

Today this is called racism, which starts when the difference, real or imaginary is to always justifying an aggression. An attack based on the failure to understand the other, the inability to accept difference and notching dialogue, and is the belief that some people are superior to others simply because of their belonging to a specific "race". Racists define race as a group of people that share a common ancestry. Distinguish races under physical characteristics such as skin color and appearance of hair. Actually, it does not matter any clearer and, above all, no relevant difference because we are made of the same things and after all we all come from the same place.

The word "racism" is also used to describe abusive or aggressive behavior towards members of an "inferior race". Racism takes many forms in different countries according to their history, culture and other social factors. A relatively new form of racism sometimes called "ethnic or cultural differentiation" says that all races and cultures are equal but they should not be mixed, in order to preserve its originality. Biology has only determined a single race: the human race.

Your say: Tiger mosquito

Aedes albopictus or (Asian) tiger mosquito is capable of transmitting a bite of 22 viruses including dengue, yellow fever and West Nile virus
Its most notable feature is its morphological black body with white stripes (head, abdomen and legs. The strength of their eggs (survive drying and cooling) allows human use globalization to reach further. Among other places, their eggs can travel on used tires or in bamboo flower pots.

Sociological and anthropological studies conducted in Italy, reveal that in some areas reached to change people's habits. People have removed some outdoor activities because of the bite. And urban areas are ideal for installation.
These studies also indicate that residential areas are ideals ecosystems for tiger mosquito, because these are plenty of gardens so the insect uses any container with water to reproduce.

Well, I think that the tiger mosquito spread is a serious business because it's an invasive species and it can provoke some devastating illnesses into humans. There are many ways to prevent the bites, but for me, the most effective ones are to wear more clothes although in summer it's kinda difficult and the other that can make mosquitos harder to get in your house and it's to install nets in the windows.

Your say: Bullfighting

Bullfighting is a feast consisting deal bulls, on foot or horseback, in a sealed enclosure for this purpose, the bullring.

From my point of view, the bullfighting should be prohibited because of the suffering of a living being, because only an idiot can come up massively raise animals without any other purpose than his public torture, because even though the show is based on the philosophy of "noble" struggle of man against animal, the reality is that this is a rounding up of several thugs with knives against a defenseless animal, even though the bull could injure or kill one of them in this "noble" fight , they never recognize the bull's "victory", so they kill him anyways ...and there are many reasonings against bullfighting.

In conclusion, this bestiality should not exist, it is a form of entertainment that is against animal rights.

Your say: Freedom of expression

Nowadays many people are harassed or imprisoned for exercising their right to freedom of expression, without the ability to be heard, it is very difficult to defend the rights of others.

Thousands of activists, journalists, peaceful demonstrators, trade unionists, members of religious or ethnic minorities, etc. continue to be persecuted, threatened, imprisoned, tortured or killed for the sake of dissent.

However, Internet is used every day to speak out against power and to lobby for greater respect for human rights. In many different parts of the world, is fighting a crucial battle for control of access to information, media and network technology, while social networks fuel a new activism that governments are struggling to control. However, attempts by governments to block internet access or cut mobile phone networks are not getting away with the voices of protest from those who are fighting for their human rights. Repression may increase, but it seems that every time people are less afraid to express themselves freely.

In conclusion, I completely agree with the concept of freedom of the philosopher John Stuart Mill, that is to have total freedom less if it harms others.
